The Pas, MB – The Northern Manitoba Blizzard completed a trade this week, acquiring 2006-born forward Liam Carlone from the Winkler Flyers in exchange for 2007-born defenceman, Seth Quayle, and a Player Development Fee.
Carlone recorded 16 goals and 21 assists during the 2025-26 MJHL season with the Flyers and now joins the Blizzard, where he’ll look to take on an even bigger role. With more than 90 MJHL games under his belt, the veteran forward brings offensive ability, experience, and leadership to what is shaping up to be a very good looking Northern Manitoba lineup.
“Well he plays the game the right way and drags guys into the fight.” Said President of Hockey Ops and Head Coach Josh Gratton when asked why it was important to go get a player like Liam. “He leads by example. He has been in the league, has played 3 years of junior hockey, and plays the detailed part of the game. Thats hard to teach, and you need that in a 20-year old to help out these younger guys, and help lead the team into the fight.”
Over his junior career, Carlone has appeared in more than 140 games and established himself as one of the MJHL’s respected leaders. He served as an assistant captain with the Winkler Flyers last season, earning a reputation for his work ethic, consistency, and commitment to team success.
The addition of Carlone gives the Blizzard another proven veteran presence up front as the organization continues to build toward the upcoming season, and Director of Player Personnel and General Manager Mark Patton reiterated his leadership, and value.
“His leadership qualities are evident both on and off the ice, earning him the respect of teammates and coaches alike.” Said Patton when speaking on the matter. “Liam is the complete package and someone that we identified as a high-priority to go out and acquire. He is a very skilled and productive hockey player who can impact games offensively while fitting our identity by competing hard in every situation. Most importantly, Liam is an exceptional human being whose character, integrity, and attitude make him a welcoming presence in any locker room and community. We are excited that he chose to join us and help lead our strong group this season.”
With almost every trade, there is a body going back the other way, and heading to Winkler as part of the trade is 2007-born defenceman Seth Quayle.
Quayle, a 6-foot-4 defenceman, joined the Blizzard midway through the 2025-26 season by way of a trade with the Niverville Nighthawks, and appeared in 25 games, recording four points. While his offensive numbers were modest, his size, physicality, and presence on the blue line made him a valuable piece of the Blizzard’s defensive corps.

Liam Carlone will join his new teammates on August 27 as the Blizzard open 2026-27 Training Camp at the Roy H. Johnston Arena. The club will then kick off its 2026 exhibition schedule on August 31 with a matchup against division rival Dauphin Kings.
