The Pas, MB – The Northern Manitoba Blizzard finalized a trade on Tuesday afternoon, acquiring 2007-born defenceman Odile Grenier from the Gatineau Nomad (LHJAAAQ) in exchange for a Player Development Fee.
A native of St-Étienne, Quebec, Grenier is a big, mobile, left-shot defenceman who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs over 200 pounds. The 19-year-old recently completed his second full season of junior hockey with the Gatineau Nomad (LHJAAAQ), following a season with the Montreal Black Vees of the USPHL Premier.
Over the past two seasons, Grenier has recorded more than 40 points, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively while providing a steady presence on the blue line. His size, mobility, and puck-moving ability make him a strong addition to what is already an imposing Blizzard defensive corps.
“Odile is a big body who moves the puck really well and will help stabilize our left side,” said President of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Josh Gratton. “We want to be a big, hard team to play against, and this trade moves us another step in that direction.“
Director of Player Personnel and General Manager Mark Patton had some good reviews on the pickup. “Odile is a great defender who sees the ice well and moves pucks. He is a great skater who plays with pace and defends very well. Grenier had a plus/minus of +15 on a QJHL team that didn’t have many plus players, while also being one of the only two defenceman to post double-digit points. He fits the mold of what we look for too, excellent work ethic and passion to play the game. He will be a leader on and off the ice for us, and we are very excited to be able to bring him in”
Grenier will join his new teammates on August 27 as the Blizzard open 2026-27 Training Camp at the Roy H. Johnston Arena. The club will then kick off its 2026 exhibition schedule on August 31 with a matchup against division rival Dauphin Kings
