Player Advancement: Brett Ward to Fredonia State

THE PAS, MB | The Northern Manitoba Blizzard would like to congratulate ’04 defensemen, Brett Ward , on his commitment to continue his hockey and academic career at Fredonia State University (NCAA DIII) in Fredonia, New York.

Ward is a Spruce Grove, Alberta product who came to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard during the 2022/23 season. Before playing with the Blizzard, Ward also suited up for the Melfort Mustangs (SJHL) as well as Grande Prairie Storm (AJHL). In 156 regular season games played at the Junior A level, Ward notched 14 goals and added 33 assists.  In playoffs, the right handed defensemen has tallied 3 assists in 15 games.

Brett is a key veteran defensemen, who plays a strong game on both ends of the ice. He plays in all situations for the Blizzard, whether it’s 5 on 5, powerplay and penalty kill. He will bring to Fredonia State Blue Devils a strong defensive presence as well as a passion for the game that will help him succeed at the next level.

HC/GM Eric Labrosse added, “I’m thrilled for Brett, he’s worked extremely hard and gone through a lot of adversity in his first few seasons as a Junior A player. Brett has improved tremendously his attention to details since I first saw him on the ice here two years ago. He’s worked very hard at becoming a detailed, well rounded defensive defensemen. I’m happy to see that it is now paying off for him. He will bring many attributes to Fredonia’s D core, one of them being a PK specialist. He has earned himself this great opportunity through hard work and a great deal of determination.  Fredonia is definitely getting a great player and an even better person for their hockey program.”

Congrats Brett from all of us at the NorMan Blizzard!
