The Pas, MB – The Northern Manitoba Blizzard completed a trade on Sunday evening, acquiring 20-year-old forward Matthew O’Sullivan from the Dauphin Kings in exchange for a Player Development Fee (PDF) and future considerations.
O’Sullivan is coming off his second full MJHL season, during which the veteran forward scored a combined 23 goals. A proven offensive producer, he has spent time with the Winnipeg Freeze, Winnipeg Blues and Dauphin Kings, recording 69 points over two seasons in the MJHL.
The Manitoba-born forward reunites with new Blizzard Head Coach Josh Gratton, under whom he enjoyed tremendous success during the 2025-26 season with the Winnipeg Blues. O’Sullivan recorded 31 of his 47 points that year while playing for Gratton.
“He’s an offensive guy, and he’s been in the league. He was a 50-point guy last year, and as a 20-year-old coming in here, he’s going to be a big contributor to our offence,” said Gratton. “He’s going to stabilize our power play, and we’ll lean on him to create offence. He’s very excited to come here, and he’s a player we’re going to rely on to help develop our younger guys.”
O’Sullivan has consistently proven he can score, recording more than 30 goals over two MJHL seasons and 50 goals throughout his junior career. The 2006-born sniper has built a reputation as a dangerous goal scorer with an elite release.
“There was an opportunity to bring in somebody with a lot of experience,” said Blizzard General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Mark Patton. “He’s got a great shot, he fits our standard, and he fits our style of play. He also fits well with the players we’ve already signed and the group we’re bringing in. We feel he’s going to play an important role in helping bring a winning culture back to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.“
O’Sullivan will join his new teammates on August 27th in The Pas as the Northern Manitoba Blizzard open their 2026-27 training camp at the Roy H. Johnston Arena, with a pre-season reunion with the Dauphin Kings on August 31st.
